Housing Support
Have nowhere to sleep tonight?
- Housing Options Service, Bradford – 01274 435999.
Opening hours are 8:30 – 16:30 Monday – Thursday and 08:30 – 16:00 on Fridays. If you need help when the offices are closed, please contact the emergency duty team on 01274 381999.
- No Second night out – 01274 309165
Street outreach support, housing assessments and advice, emergency shelter in cold weather, short term emergency housing when you have nowhere else to stay. If you do not have a phone, please go to Discovery House, 133 Barkerend Road, Bradford, BD3 9AU.
Cold Weather Homeless
Bradford Council and partners run a cold weather service that gives emergency shelter to people sleeping rough. This happens when temperatures drop to zero or below. The service operates between 1st October and 30th April. Please note that the beds provided are in communal rooms. To find out more, please visit their website here.

Debt advice
- Step Change – 0800 138 1111
Step change provide free and expert advice, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 16:00. They can help to look at your budget and recommend a range of practical solutions based on your situation.
- Help Through Hardship – 0808 208 2138
The Help through Hardship helpline is a free phone service delivered by Trussell in partnership with Citizens Advice. Their advisers support people who are worried about money and are there to help you access the support you need.
- The money helper service – 0800 011 3797
The money helper advice service was set up by the government to offer free and impartial money advice. They can support you with advice and guides to help improve your finances, as well as tools and calculators to keep track and plan ahead.
- National Debtline – 0808 808 4000
National Debtline provides free advice and resources to help people deal with their debts.
Did you know?
If you’re struggling with serious debt issues, you can now get two months ‘breathing space’ The new scheme aims to help relieve some of the pressure of dealing with your people you owe money too, so you can focus on getting debt advice without worrying about being chased for payment or incurring extra charges. If someone is receiving mental health crisis treatment, they can get a longer grace period, which lasts as long as their treatment plus a further 30 days.

Mental Health
If you need urgent support, please contact First Response on 0800 952 1181. This service is open 24hours a day, seven days a week.
Safe Spaces is a crisis support service for anyone aged 7 or over. From 12:00pm (mid-day) to 02:30am. To access, call First Response and ask for ‘Safe Spaces’.

Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence
If you are in danger but unable to speak, call 999 and if you can, cough or tap the handset if it is a landline. If you are calling from a mobile, call 999 and press 55 – this lets the police know that you are in danger and they can try to trace your call. DO NOT HANG UP.

They can help with, emergency safe refuge, support for children and families, counselling services, early intervention and prevention, professional referrals

They can help BAME women fleeing any form of abuse. Refuge/safe house, accept women from all over the UK, assigned support worker, support with health and wellbeing, training, education and employment.

Support for male victims of domestic abuse. They offer emotional support, emergency accommodation for men needing immediate support, term supported accommodation with a housing officer.

Specialist support for men who have suffered sexual abuse. They can connect survivors and their supporters to professional services. Call or text their phone.
- Bradford Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Survivors Service – 0800 448 0710
Free specialist support for girls aged 13 and over, who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. This includes rape, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, forced marriage, so-called honour based violence, female genital mutilation, trafficking and sexual exploitation. They can help with counselling, independent advisors, Jyoti (specialist services for BAME women/girls, advocacy and support for asylum seeking and trafficked women.)

Specialist LGBTQIA+ anti-abuse charity. Available weekdays 10:00 – 17:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, or 10:00 – 20:00 Wednesday and Thursdays.
Perpetrators (people doing it)
It is very difficult to admit that you are using controlling and/or abusive behaviours. Below are some charities that can speak with you and help you to take the necessary steps to change. They will not judge you, they just want to help you, with all types of abuse.

Free national stalking helpline, open Monday – Friday, 09:30 to 16:30. A place to get information, advice and support for people who are being stalked; whether that be in person, online and from a stranger or someone they know.
Health and wellbeing
Well Together provides a range of interesting, sociable, health-led activities delivered by volunteers. All activities are free and run across Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven, in wheelchair-accessible venues. There are many groups available, including crafting, peer support and walking, and there are no limits to how many of these you can join.
Well Together is for adults aged 18 years or over and welcome service users with long term health conditions. They do ask that people must be independent enough to leave their home un-aided and be well enough to access an activity in the local community run by a volunteer.

Financial assistance in an emergency

If you need help to pay your bills or cover other costs while you wait for your first Universal Credit payment, you can apply to get an advance. The most you can get as an advance is the amount of your first estimated payment

A budgeting loan can help pay for furniture, household items, clothing and footwear, rent in advance or costs linked to moving house, costs linked to getting a new job, funeral costs.
- Discretionary Housing payments – 01274 437722
Discretionary Housing payments are additional payments to help with rent or housing costs. This includes, rent shortfalls, rent arrears, rent deposit/bond/rent in advance, and other eligible housing costs. It does not include charges included in your rent – i.e. fuel, water, food.
You must be in receipt of either housing benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit to apply.

You may be able to get a loan from Credit Union, which has much lower interest rates and affordable repayments and no hidden fees. Poorer credit scores doesn’t mean that they cannot lend to you, contact them for more information.
Gambling

They offer free, confidential help and support to anyone who is worried about their, or someone else’s gambling.
Safeguarding
If you believe someone is at an immediate risk of harm, always call 999.
Child
If you are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child in the Bradford District, call Childrens Social Care on 01274 435600.
Adult
If you are worried about an adult that has care and support needs and they may be at the risk of abuse, harm or neglect, please call the adult safeguarding team on 01274 431077.
If your concerns are out of office hours (8:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday) please call the Social Services emergency Duty team on, 01274 431010.
Bereavement

For anyone aged 16 or over, within the Bradford District. Free, confidential service for all.
- Cruse Bereavement – 0808 808 1677
Cruse offers support after the death of someone. Counselling can be on a one-to-one basis or in group sessions. Pre-bereavement help also offered.

Child Bereavement supports families when a baby or child (of any age) dies or is dying, or when a child is facing bereavement.
- Marie Curie – 01274 337000
Marie Curie supports children, young people, families, adults and carers when someone has died or is dying.
- The Lullaby Trust 0808 802 6868
The Lullaby Trust raises awareness of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), provides expert advice on safer sleep for babies and offers emotional support for bereaved families.
