Independent support for people at court

Welcome to BCCS Assist

(Bradford Court Chaplaincy Service)

Walking into court can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what to expect. Whether you’re here as a defendant, a victim, a witness, a loved one, or part of the court staff – we’re here for you.

We offer free, confidential support to anyone coming to court, or preparing to. No matter your situation, you’re always welcome to talk to us.

We understand that court can be stressful and unfamiliar. That’s why we’re here – to listen without judgement, to offer guidance, reassurance, and clear information to help you feel a little less anxious.

Everyone’s experience is different, so we’ll tailor our support to you. What you tell us stays between us; we don’t share anything with the court.

And if you need extra help, we can connect you with trusted organisations who can support you further.

Whatever brings you here, we’re by your side.

How We Can Help

Our staff, are available to assist with:

Support and guidance during court proceedings, for everyone.

A listening ear for anyone affected by court proceedings, including court personnel.

Reflections and referrals on personal issues, where necessary.

Non-judgemental advice and information to help you make informed decisions.

We can help before you come to court, during court or after you or your loved ones have been in court. Whether you need to know what a court room looks like, who may be in the room, or just need someone to talk to and have a friendly face; we’re here for you.

Testimonials

I would like to thank the volunteer that spoke with me prior to each of my court appearances. The outcome on my hearing wasn’t what I had hoped for. My mind was all over the place. I felt crushed and intimidated in the court. I really appreciated the support I was given, to help keep me calm and understand what was going on/going to happen.

Latif was very lovely; he calmed me down and explained the procedures. He listened, gave advice and even spoke about life experiences, which made me find him relatable. He also explained about the charity and what he does and stands for. He was very calm and polite; he didn’t interfere when I was talking. He is a very lovely, kind man. I appreciate everything he did for me today. there should be more people like Latif and charities like this one. Thank you so much Latif.

Brilliant service, very appreciated. Friendly chat taken emotion and worry away. Conversation made a huge difference and built my self-esteem up to go into court.

Thank you so much for your support and help, I don’t think I would have gotten through it without your support. Your volunteer sat with me and took my mind off where I was and helped to calm down my anxiety. She came into court with me and didn’t judge me at all. We had a coffee and a chat after and spoke about what happened in court, it helped me so much and I am so grateful. Thank you so much to all of you that choose to do this.
